Each week Pastor Jack teaches about two significant biblical sites in Israel.
This course will cover 12 sites in all during the six-week course. The sites include:

Week 1
Mount of Olives
The Mount of Olives is a mountain ridge east of the Old City of Jerusalem. It was on this mountain that Jesus gave the Olivet Discourse found in the Synoptic Gospels of Matthew (chapter 24), Mark (chapter 13), and Luke (chapter 21). It was from the Mount of Olives that Jesus ascended into heaven and it is to the Mount of Olives that He will return.
Kidron Valley
Also called the Valley of Jehoshaphat, the Kidron Valley is located between the Old City of Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives. This valley whose name means “the valley where God will judge” holds tremendous end-times significance.

Week 2
Dominus Flevit
Also known as the Church of the Tears, this site commemorates when Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem, whose destruction he saw would come in 70 AD.
Garden of Gethsemane
The “Garden of the Olive Press” was a place where Jesus and His disciples would often come to rest and pray in the shade of the trees. It was here Jesus wrestled with His humanity and His divine purpose. It was here He was betrayed by Judas and arrested.

Week 3
House of Caiaphas
The church erected on this location is called the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, meaning the cock-crow church. It was to this location Jesus was taken after he was arrested and held for the night. It was here Peter denied Jesus three times before the cock crowed (Mark 14:30).
Upper Room
Located on Mount Zion, this is the traditional site of the last supper where Jesus washed His disciple’s feet and revealed the new covenant through the sharing of the bread and the wine. It is where the disciples gathered after the crucifixion and where the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost.

Week 4
Via Dolorosa
The “way of suffering” is the celebrated path where Jesus carried His cross through the streets of Jerusalem on His way to the crucifixion site outside the city gates. It begins at the Antonia Fortress where Jesus was beaten and mocked and ends at the place of His death, burial, and resurrection.
Garden Tomb
This site outside the Old City walls is believed by many to be the site of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. The site is a beautiful garden and in the midst of the garden is an unfinished tomb. The sign on the door expresses the core of Christian faith – He is not here, He Is Risen!

Week 5
Pools of Bethesda
The Pools of Bethesda were described in the Gospel of John as a place where many who were sick would gather to wait for the angel to stir the waters, so they might be healed. At this very site Jesus spoke healing into the body of a man who had been crippled for years (John 5).
Pool of Siloam
Siloam is a rock-cut pool on the southern slope of the City of David (believed to be the original site of Jerusalem) now outside the walls of the Old City to the southeast. The pool is fed by the waters of the Gihon Spring. For Christians the pool has significance as the location mentioned in the Gospel of John where Jesus sent a blind man to wash his eyes and receive his sight (John 9).

Week 6
Southern Temple Steps
The steps on the southern side of the Temple Mount were used by the public in the times of Jesus as the main entrance to the Temple. It is certain that Jesus and His disciples would have walked these steps on their way to the temple.
Western Wall
Formerly called the Wailing Wall, this is the western wall of the plaza built by Herod the Great upon which the Temple stood during the times of Jesus. Today it is revered as a place of prayer and study close to the location where the Temple once stood.
